The Nintendo 3DS was first shown at the 2010 E3 conference in Los Angeles. Needless to say the thought of a 3D portable device was tantalizing to the people that got to see it in action. Nintendo then had another press conference in Japan in September to announce more details about the Nintendo 3DS console. With those details they also announced the launch date and the price of the console.
Unfortunately for us and the rest of the world it was only for Japan. The anticipated date is February 26, 2011 and the price will be 25000 yen. They did say that the DS3 will be released in Canada, United States and Europe shortly after in March. So far (as of today) there has been no official date.
